The Advisor layout only works
with the ACT! 4Advisor database (advisor.dbf) If you
use the Advisor layout with another database, you
will notice that the layout is missing several data
fields and the “form” will look incorrect.
To verify you have opened the correct database, look
at the top left corner or your ACT! screen on the
title bar. It should say, ACT! - [Advisor—Contact].
If another database is open the word “Advisor”
will not be present.
If, when you click on the layout button, you do not
see a choice called “Advisor”, the layout
file did not get copied to the correct folder. To
resolve this problem, you will have to search for
the file Advisor.cly. Do this by clicking on your
Start button in Windows Click on Find, Files and Folders.
In the Named field, type Advisor.cly To scan all hard
drives and network drives, click on My Computer. For
faster searches look in the C drive first. Once you
have located the file, copy it by highlighting it
and clicking on Edit, Copy on the menu. You can also
right mouse click on the file and left mouse click
on Copy. You will now “Paste” the file
in the ACT\Layout folder.
To find the ACT\Layout folder, open My Computer
and find the drive ACT! was loaded in (usually C drive
though it could be D or another drive.) To reiterate,
ACT!’s default installation folder for a Symantec
version is \Program Files\Symantec\ACT\Layout An Interact
Commerce Corp version is \Program Files\ACT\Layout
Open the Layout folder by double clicking on it and
“Paste” the copied file into the folder.
To do this click on Edit, Paste or right mouse click
in the folder’s blank area and left mouse click
on Paste. Verify the file is there. Open ACT! 4Advisors
again click on the Layout button at the bottom. Advisor
should be a choice.
If the software still does not show you the Advisor
layout, you may have ACT! setup to look in another
folder for the layouts. To find out where ACT! is
looking for the layouts, open ACT! and click on Edit,
Preferences. On the right side of the General Tab
you will note Default Locations. Click on the down
arrow and find out where the software is looking for
the Layouts. This is the folder where ACT! is looking
for the Advisor layout. Be sure to copy the file into
this folder.
For additional information consult your ACT! documentation.
